About

The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress, writer and comedian is best known as a result of her years as head writer on NBC’s SNL, and, more recently, her impersonations of 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on the weekend staple series.

Born in Upper Darby, Penn., in 1970, Fey was a “supernerd” who studied drama in college. She later moved to Chicago where she spent many years performing with The Second City’s famous comedy troupe. Hired as a writer for SNL in 1997, Fey was promoted to the top position and became the first female to earn the title.

The multi-hyphenate also wrote and produced films including Mean Girls and Baby Mama, and writes and appears on 30 Rock, a series she created loosely based on her SNL experiences. For her efforts, Fey has earned both an Emmy and Golden Globe award.

She is married with two daughters, Alice and Penelope.

Her collection of autobiographical essays, Bossypants, was released in 2011.
